Professional Home Organization

Organizing to help you lead YOUR life one space at a time

Breathing Space is a professional organizing business that was created to help individuals, families and businesses organize their spaces in a way that represents their personal style and makes managing the demands of everyday life less stressful. It was designed to help people...find their breathing space.

My Journey to Yours

Honestly, my journey to professional organizing started in the fifth grade with a black and white checkerboard Trapper Keeper™. To children of the 70’s/‘80s this will resonate. To those not familiar with this clever tool, it was simply a collection of folders neatly arranged and packaged into a three-ring binder decorated with a glossy print of your choice. While not exactly a technically savvy solution, I quickly learned how much easier this 'simple solution' made managing my schoolwork with separate folders for each subject and a right and left interior pocket for pending vs. completed assignments. This ‘simple solution’ recipe continued to help me throughout my corporate career and in my roles as spouse, mother and elder caretaker. With every new phase of my life, I’ve always tried to find the easiest way to manage my necessary responsibilities in order to give myself some space to do the things I really wanted to do for my own well-being.  An unfussy but well-organized space has consistently eliminated unnecessary brain power, tedious 'where did it go' detective work and redundant purchasing that plague so many households trying to keep up with...well...life. With a breadth of experience in organizing for residential moves, life stage adjustments and overhauling properties for multi-generational needs, I want to help others find the ‘simple solution’ to manage their everyday demands and get to doing what makes them happy. In short, I want to help you... find your breathing space.

Organizing Designated Spaces for Beautiful Form and Function

Our lives are full of events and activities that require 'stuff' to accomplish our goals and enjoy the ride.  Sometimes it's the attic, basement, garage, closet, or even entryway that becomes the dumping ground for the things we need.  Unfortunately, when it's not designed to accommodate the needs of our family, the stuff bleeds into less desirable spaces and becomes the proverbial haystack when we need to find the sleeve of tennis balls we know we bought for our next USTA match.  Let me help you evaluate the needs of your family, purge the items you've outgrown and design a space that makes getting to the next life event/activity a breeze.  We'll work together to make the space truly customized for the unique needs of your family.

Organizing for a Move

I've had a lot of experience with the trials and tribulations of moving. Even with people that do not rise to the level of 'collector' status, it can be overwhelming to move a household, whether it be from apartment to apartment as a single person or a multi-family move with children and elderly parents in tow.  But it's also the ideal opportunity to take stock of what is actually being used and what can be donated, gifted or, perhaps begrudgingly, recycled.  I can help you sort through the piles, assess the space to which you are moving, and design solutions to make your new home, stylish, functional and comfortable.  Let's make this your best move yet!

Organizing & Showcasing for Home Sales

While effective home organizing can always have a dramatic effect on our personal well-being, it can also have a dramatic effect on our financial well-being, especially when it comes time to sell. In order to compensate ourselves for the time, effort, love and expense we've put into making a house a home, it's important to present it in its best light and highlight all of its best features for the next potential homeowner. That's where good organization comes in! Together, we can determine what can be purged, packed and displayed for maximum impact on potential homebuyers. We want them to love your home as much as you have and not only give you top dollar but also be good stewards of the property for years to come.

Organizing a Home Office

Home office spaces can quickly become seemingly 'organized chaos' if simple organizing systems are not established that can be simply maintained.  I can help you sort through the tax and utility bills from 1993 to identify the documents that actually need to be filed and establish a system that is comfortably sustainable.  I can also find optimal ways to store the 'tools' you need to make your home office 'wheels' run smoothly.  Let's make your office space not only functional for the way you intend to use it but appealing to your particular aesthetic tastes. A home office shouldn't choke you.  It should facilitate getting done what needs to be done to spend your time doing what makes you joyful.

Organizing a 'brick and mortar' business

This type of organizing requires an underanding of not only how a single individual goes about their business on a daily basis but also how a team and, perhaps, even vendors and customers interact with a space. I can help you set up an environment that is functional for all 'participants' in the location and is inviting to those that matter most to the success of your business, your employees and customers.  Let's make the rent you pay work for you!

Organizing Workflows and Systems for Professional Efficiency

My corporate colleagues used to not only poke fun at me for the way I kept my workspace organized but also for my particular bent for creating structure where none existed.  While I staunchly agree that room for creativity is the lifeblood of any business, I have also seen first-hand how important workflows and systems are to ensure that creative space is maintained while ensuring consistent product quality. I have the expertise to design simple, manageable workflows and systems to make your team hum efficiently and effectively. You might even find them humming a little tune in the lunchroom.  Well, that's my goal, anyway:)
